EXTREME Update Version 1.3

We are always looking for ways make great things even better.  This always involves putting our products through rigorous testing and real life use.  When it came to testing MusicMedic EXTREME pads, there was no one more qualified than Wilmington, NC’s own Benny Hill.  Benny is a seriously awesome working musician who practices and gigs constantly. We had Benny bring in his horn so we could see how the EXTREMES held up.

The pads that we were really curious about are the palm key pads due to the amount of moisture they receive. Benny’s palm key pads were some of the very first EXTREME pads installed anywhere. We removed, inspected, and dissected them to see what we could learn.

You see the outer layer of black SaxGourmet leather has some sediment and deposits, your typical jazz player funk, and an indentation from the tone hole.  Underneath that layer, the treated tan pad leather was clean and dry and has almost no  indentation of the tone hole.   Underneath that is the really cool part, the synthetic felt was clean and dry and had no indentation from the tone hole.  The Felt is in perfect condition. We were pleased to see that EXTREME pads truly held up when put to the test, and they worked exactly like we wanted them to.

Now our next goal is to find a way to keep the surface leather even softer for longer, so the Sax ProShop and the Pad Company have teamed up and are already working a new round of experiments.
