Project Update #1 Body Work We weren’t quite sure what to expect underneath the bow guard at first look. As you can see, it turned out that someone poured a lot of solder on the horn to “fix” the cracks that were underneath the bow guard. We carefully removed the solder and cleaned up […]
One of the issues with #36 was that the tenon and the receiver didn’t match and therefore didn’t seal. Since it is our goal to make the instrument playable again, we set out to fix this.
Well, we put off removing the nasty patches on the neck because none of us wanted to face the truth. After all, no one puts patches over a perfectly good neck, it’s bound to be cracked and ugly under there. With that gloomy truth, the patches came off.
We have started working on the tone holes and they are truly in terrible shape. The way they are right now they are not level, will never be level, and will never have a pad seal. We had a lot of work to do! We had to make a decision: Should we replace the […]
After we removed all of the posts from the body, we noticed that some of the post heads were in bad shape.
There is a lot that we can do with this project and a lot of ways to go. Certainly, the guys at the Sax ProShop would love to make a kill’in A-Sax with fast action and all the comforts we’re used to. However, it would also be exciting to find out what Adolphe Sax loved […]
Note: I have a lot of research to do before I get into working on this horn and the story I’m about to tell you is just hearsay. Although I do not doubt the validity of the stories I’ve been told, I do not yet have any documentation. I’m writing this from my hotel room […]
We currently have one of the most precious saxophones here at the ProShop: The Adolphe Sax #36 built in 1859. It was entrusted to us by Carina Rascher, daughter of the late Sigurd Rascher who received the horn from Doc Wagner for his lifelong support of Buescher. #36 is said to be the prototype for […]

This year is completely jam packed! We will be bringing some instruments and necks for you to try, and please feel free to […]

For years, the Sax ProShop has been perfecting the art of overhauling saxophones. We’ve been learning efficiency, better techniques, and making better tools, which have all had the direct result of […]

I promised in an earlier post that I would tell you about this amazing horn I picked up in Basel while I was traveling from Paris, France to Frankfurt, Germany. I’m writing this post from a hotel in Frankfurt, and the Messe just ended. I’ll tell you more about the Messe later, but in an […]
Body Work Station With the quote done, the work can begin. Using the quote as a road map to the coming repairs, modifications and body work, the Body Work Station begins to turn an instrument in the condition it arrived in into a straight and perfectly functioning machine. The Body Work Station transforms a dented, […]
